Ceres

Mater Frugum — Mother of the Harvest

Ceres is a Roman goddess of harvest, associated with the realm of earth. Ceres belongs to the olympian generation of the pantheon. Roughly equivalent to Demeter in cross-pantheon mapping. Symbolised by the wheat sheaf.

Historical Note

Ceres gave us the word 'cereal.' Her daughter Proserpina's abduction by Pluto explained the seasons — Ceres' grief halted all plant growth until Proserpina returned.
