Roman Mythology
Mercury
Nuntius Deorum — Winged Messenger
Mercury is a Roman god of commerce, associated with the realm of olympus. Mercury belongs to the olympian generation of the pantheon. Roughly equivalent to Hermes in cross-pantheon mapping. Symbolised by the caduceus.
Historical Note
Mercury was depicted with a winged hat (petasus), winged sandals, and the caduceus — two serpents entwined around a staff. He guided souls to the underworld.
