Yama

the First Mortal — Judge of the Dead

Yama is an Indian god of death, associated with the realm of underworld. Yama belongs to the first generation of the pantheon. Roughly equivalent to Pluto in cross-pantheon mapping. Symbolised by the mace.

Historical Note

The first man who chose to die, and so became lord of the dead. His twin sister Yami begged him to come back; he refused, and they invented night so she could grieve. Judges souls with his mace and his ledger of deeds.
