Vishnu

the Preserver — Sustainer of the Cosmos

Vishnu is an Indian trimurti of preservation, associated with the realm of heaven. Vishnu belongs to the primordial generation of the pantheon. Roughly equivalent to Jupiter in cross-pantheon mapping. Symbolised by the discus.

Historical Note

Reclines on the cosmic serpent Shesha in the milky ocean; whenever dharma falters in the world he descends as an avatar — Matsya the fish, Kurma the turtle, Rama, Krishna, the Buddha, and at the end of time the rider Kalki.
