the Jackal — Embalmer of the Dead

Anubis is an Egyptian god of death, associated with the realm of underworld. Anubis belongs to the hero generation of the pantheon. Roughly equivalent to Mercury in cross-pantheon mapping. Symbolised by the jackal.

Historical Note

Jackal-headed god of mummification, son of Osiris and Nephthys. Personally embalms every pharaoh's body, then leads the dead by the hand into the Hall of Judgement. The jackals of the desert that gathered at the edge of cemeteries were said to be his messengers.
