Bes is an Egyptian god of strength, associated with the realm of earth. Bes belongs to the hero generation of the pantheon. Symbolised by the lion mask.
Historical Note
Squat, lion-maned, tongue-lolling dwarf-god — the only major Egyptian deity shown full-face rather than profile. Patron of households, of childbirth, of music and dance, of beer. Frightens demons from cradles. Loved by the poor; tolerated by the priests.
