Porus was an Indian king active in the 4th c. BC during the Mahajanapada period from the state of Paurava. Was assassinated.
Historical Note
King of the Pauravas between the Jhelum and the Chenab. Lost to Alexander at the Hydaspes after standing his ground on a war-elephant against horse-archers. When asked how he wished to be treated, he answered: 'As a king treats a king.' Alexander gave him back his kingdom.
