Indian Rulers
Chanakya
the Kingmaker
Chanakya was an Indian strategist active in the 4th c. BC during the Maurya period from the state of Maurya. Died: renounced.
Historical Note
Brahmin master of the Arthashastra — the most ruthless manual of statecraft ever written, equal parts Machiavelli and Sun Tzu. Found the boy Chandragupta in exile and made him emperor. Died, perhaps, by his own quiet vow to fast unto death.
