Ajatashatru

the Patricide King

Ajatashatru was an Indian king active in the 5th c. BC during the Mahajanapada period from the state of Magadha. Was assassinated.

Historical Note

Imprisoned his own father Bimbisara and starved him to gain the Magadhan throne. Annexed Kashi, broke the Vajji confederacy with the catapult and the chariot-with-scythes, and was himself assassinated by his own son.
