Demetrius I was an Indian king active in the 2nd c. BC during the Post-Maurya period from the state of Indo-Greek. Was killed in battle.
Historical Note
Greek king of Bactria who invaded India after the fall of the Maurya. His coins bear an elephant-scalp helmet in imitation of Alexander. Tradition makes him the first 'King of the Indians' since the Greeks left the Punjab.
