Indian Battles

Saketa

The Battle of Saketa was fought in 150 BC in Ganges Valley during the Post-Maurya era, a siege engagement against Shunga. It ended in victory for the Indian side.

Historical Note

The Indo-Greek king Menander besieged and took Saketa, then pushed on to Pataliputra itself — the farthest east any Greek army ever reached. Patanjali, writing as a contemporary, mentions the siege almost in passing.
