Lakshmi

Goddess of Fortune and the Lotus

Lakshmi is an Indian goddess of fortune, associated with the realm of heaven. Lakshmi belongs to the first generation of the pantheon. Roughly equivalent to Fortuna in cross-pantheon mapping. Symbolised by the lotus.

Historical Note

Vishnu's consort. Rose from the Churning of the Ocean of Milk on a lotus, holding lotuses. Fickle goddess of fortune — wherever she goes, prosperity follows, and where she leaves, kingdoms fall.
