Demeter

Goddess of the Grain and Harvest

Demeter is a Greek goddess of harvest, associated with the realm of earth. Demeter belongs to the olympian generation of the pantheon. Roughly equivalent to Ceres in cross-pantheon mapping. Symbolised by the wheat sheaf.

Historical Note

When Persephone was abducted by Hades, Demeter's grief halted all plant growth. Zeus was forced to negotiate a compromise: six months above, six months below — giving the world its seasons.
