Greek Battles

Cunaxa

The Battle of Cunaxa was fought in 401 BC in Mesopotamia during the Classical era, a land engagement against Persia. It ended in defeat for the Greek side.

Historical Note

Cyrus the Younger died trying to seize the Persian throne. His Ten Thousand Greek mercenaries were stranded a thousand miles from home — Xenophon's Anabasis recounts their march out.
