Egyptian Pharaohs
Shabaka
the Kushite Sage-King
Shabaka was an Egyptian pharaoh active in the 8th c. BC during the Third Intermediate period from the state of 25th Dynasty. Died of natural causes.
Historical Note
Kushite king who reunified Egypt under the 25th Dynasty. Copied an ancient theological text onto a granite block — the Shabaka Stone — preserving a treatise on the god Ptah that would otherwise have been lost. Sheltered a fleeing Hoshea of Israel from the Assyrians.
