Merneptah

Smiter of the Sea Peoples

Merneptah was an Egyptian pharaoh active in the 13th c. BC during the New Kingdom period from the state of 19th Dynasty. Died of natural causes.

Historical Note

Ramesses II's thirteenth son and finally his successor at sixty. Defeated a Libyan invasion in his fifth year and erected the Israel Stela — the earliest extra-biblical reference to Israel, a single line crowing 'Israel is laid waste, his seed is not.'
