Necho I

Founder of the Saite Line

Necho I was an Egyptian pharaoh active in the 7th c. BC during the Late Period period from the state of 26th Dynasty. Was killed in battle.

Historical Note

Saite prince installed by Assurbanipal as a client. Killed leading a revolt against the Kushite Tantamani in the same campaign that brought Ashurbanipal back south. His son Psamtik I would inherit, free Egypt from Assyria, and found the renaissance.
