Ptolemy V

the Rosetta Stone King

Ptolemy V was an Egyptian pharaoh active in the 2nd c. BC during the Ptolemaic period from the state of Ptolemaic. Died: poisoned.

Historical Note

Five years old at his father's death. The priests' decree confirming his coronation was inscribed in hieroglyphic, demotic, and Greek on a granite stela found at Rashid in 1799 — the Rosetta Stone, key to a millennium of locked Egyptian writing.
