Egyptian Pharaohs
Ptolemy III
Euergetes the Benefactor
Ptolemy III was an Egyptian pharaoh active in the 3rd c. BC during the Ptolemaic period from the state of Ptolemaic. Died of natural causes.
Historical Note
Marched east as far as Babylon during the Third Syrian War — the deepest a Ptolemy ever penetrated — and brought back the statues the Persians had carried off from Egypt three centuries before. Inscribed the Canopus Decree, an early bilingual reform of the calendar.
