Egyptian Pharaohs

Khafre

Carver of the Sphinx

Khafre was an Egyptian pharaoh active in the 25th c. BC during the Old Kingdom period from the state of 4th Dynasty. Died of natural causes.

Historical Note

Son of Khufu. Built the second pyramid at Giza — slightly smaller but on higher ground, so it looks taller — and almost certainly the Great Sphinx beside it, its face thought to be his own.
