Egyptian Pharaohs
Nectanebo II
Last of the Native Pharaohs
Nectanebo II was an Egyptian pharaoh active in the 4th c. BC during the Late Period period from the state of 30th Dynasty. Died: exile.
Historical Note
Last native pharaoh of Egypt. Resisted Persia for fifteen years, then fled south to Nubia when Artaxerxes III broke through at Pelusium. Greek romance later turned him into the real father of Alexander the Great — a final consolation.
