Egyptian Mythology
Sekhmet
the Lion-Headed — Wrath of Ra
Sekhmet is an Egyptian goddess of war, associated with the realm of heaven. Sekhmet belongs to the first generation of the pantheon. Roughly equivalent to Athena in cross-pantheon mapping. Symbolised by the lioness.
Historical Note
Lion-headed daughter of Ra. Mistress of plague and war. Pharaohs prayed to her before battle and to her healers afterwards — for the same goddess who sends fever can stop it. Her priests were the first physicians of Egypt.
