Perire

The Battle of Perire was fought in 1208 BC in Delta during the New Kingdom era, a land engagement against Libyans. It ended in victory for the Egyptian side.

Historical Note

Merneptah, sixty years old and newly crowned, met a Libyan king's coalition of Tehenu, Sea Peoples, and refugees in the western Delta. He killed nine thousand and the rest fled. His Israel Stela, set up to commemorate the victory, includes the first written mention of Israel.
