Egyptian Battles
Avaris
The Battle of Avaris was fought in 1539 BC in Delta during the New Kingdom era, a siege engagement against Hyksos. It ended in victory for the Egyptian side.
Historical Note
Ahmose I stormed the Hyksos capital in the Eastern Delta after a long siege, chased the remnant to Sharuhen in Canaan, and besieged that city for three more years. Centuries of foreign rule ended on this day; the New Kingdom began.
