Egyptian Battles
Heracleopolis (Piye)
The Battle of Heracleopolis (Piye) was fought in 728 BC in Delta during the Third Intermediate era, a siege engagement against Tefnakht. It ended in victory for the Egyptian side.
Historical Note
Piye of Kush sailed downriver, surrounded the Delta prince Tefnakht's army at Heracleopolis, and broke it. He spared the local kings who came out submissive — and confiscated the horses of one who had let his stable starve, saying he loved horses more.
