Roman Rulers
Cato the Elder
the Censor
Cato the Elder was a statesman of the Roman Republic active in the 2nd c. BC originally from Italia. Held power for 35 years and died of natural causes.
Historical Note
Censor, soldier, and unyielding moralist. Ended every Senate speech — regardless of topic — with 'Carthago delenda est' (Carthage must be destroyed).
