Roman Battles

Caudine Forks

The Battle of Caudine Forks was fought in 321 BC in Italia during the Republic era, a ambush engagement against Samnites. It ended in defeat for the Roman side.

Historical Note

Two consular armies trapped in a narrow pass by the Samnites and forced to surrender. The legionaries marched out beneath the yoke — a humiliation Rome avenged for a generation.
