Victor of Himera

Gelon was a Greek tyrant active in the 5th c. BC during the Classical period based in Syracuse. Died of natural causes.

Historical Note

Tyrant of Syracuse who routed a Carthaginian invasion at Himera (480 BC) on the same day as Salamis. Sicilian Greeks credited him with saving the West.
