Egyptian Pharaohs
Ramesses II
the Great
Ramesses II was an Egyptian pharaoh active in the 13th c. BC during the New Kingdom period from the state of 19th Dynasty. Died of natural causes.
Historical Note
Reigned 67 years, sired perhaps a hundred children, fought the Hittites to a draw at Kadesh and then signed history's first peace treaty. The colossi of Abu Simbel are his. Likely the pharaoh of the Exodus in tradition; ruled too long, by his enemies' count.
