Zhang Qian was a Chinese diplomat active in the 2nd c. BC during the Western Han period from the state of Han. Died of natural causes.
Historical Note
Sent west by Wu of Han to find allies against the Xiongnu. Held captive ten years, escaped, returned thirteen years later with maps and seeds. The Silk Road begins with him.
