Roman Rulers

Diocletian

the Reformer

Diocletian was a Roman emperor of the Tetrarchy dynasty active in the 3rd c. AD originally from Dalmatia. Held power for 21 years and died: natural (abdicated).

Historical Note

Voluntarily retired to grow cabbages on the Dalmatian coast — one of very few to peacefully abdicate.
