Greek Battles

Cyzicus

The Battle of Cyzicus was fought in 410 BC in Hellespont during the Classical era, a naval engagement against Sparta. It ended in victory for the Greek side.

Historical Note

Alcibiades caught the Spartan fleet in a storm, surrounded it with a hidden squadron, and destroyed it utterly. The Spartan dispatch back home read: 'Ships gone; Mindarus dead; men starving; what to do?'
