Egyptian Pharaohs
Ay
the Vizier-Pharaoh
Ay was an Egyptian pharaoh active in the 14th c. BC during the New Kingdom period from the state of 18th Dynasty. Died of natural causes.
Historical Note
Tutankhamun's vizier and probably his murderer-or-shepherd. Took the throne at the boy-king's death and married his teenage widow Ankhesenamun — who, the Hittite archive reveals, had begged a Hittite prince to come marry her instead. The prince was killed en route.
